Testing a Publishing Wordmark

I’m re-editing some old ebooks to up their quality & match new releases. Packaging is important for first impressions with new readers….and also for myself–to remind myself to up my game every time.

One element of print and ebooks is a publisher’s imprint or wordmark that appears on title pages and spines. Many people judge a book by it’s cover…and it’s typesetting…and so on.

It’s weird to me that some people really do feel reassurance from having some visual concept that can bridge across the different settings I tell stories in. I may be used to intricate plotting IN stories, but I have to admit dressing up a package matters as well.

Anyhow. I’m testing out a few ideas I’m not sure about…but I kind of dig this one. Whatcha think?

Stargate Reflections & ‘Rising’ Rewatch

This wasn’t planned. It just sort of happened. It’s a short reflection on what Stargate has meant to me, an update on it’s ‘return’ and how well my family has taken to it now that it’s ‘back’ ($20 USD unlimited streaming -until May 15).

After that comes my first-ever attempt at live commentary, of the pilot episode ‘Stargate Atlantis: Rising’. You can use any dvd but it’s time-coded to the stargatecommand.co versions: packaged for syndication (ugh). Disclosure? None! I have no affiliation with https://stargatecommand.co.

Let me know what you think, and if you want more.

ASUNDER on Audible: Free for Patrons

20 years after the American Civil War, former slave Marcus Riggs was trapped in a British Harbor when invaders came to enslave all mankind. Now, the invaders are gone & new orders clash as humanity struggles to rise from the ashes…but are the aliens gone for good?

Thank you for being my patron! Multiverse patrons & up can grab a download code for Asunder on Audible.

Unlike other Audible titles whose original audio couldn’t be saved, this is my actual podcast narration cleaned up to Audible technical specs & re-released.

If you haven’t heard it, or want to give the code to someone who you think will dig my take on War of the Worlds, reply below (or email or private message me) before Sunday, March 25th & I’ll email you a code to the email on your account.

Priya Whittaker

What do you think of the new player in ‘On the Sky’? If you haven’t gotten far enough into ‘On the Sky Road’ to meet her, yet, I’ll just say Priya Whittaker was quickly promoted from ‘guest of the week’ to ‘co-star’.

I’ve learned to listen when my characters send me back to the drawing board, and I rewrote this story to do justice to do her character justice.

During my mental ‘casting’ & research for Priya Whittaker I came across this piece by artist @littlemachine_ on Twitter. As far as I’m concerned, this rendition of ‘Shaw’ from ‘Person of Interest’ ticks all the right boxes.

That’s Whittaker, right there. Except always with a Han Solo cocky grin. I might even have to have that commissioned 🙂

Then & Now

Recently, I opened a dusty old folder on my computer and found this: the first podcast logo, designed way back in, yes, 2008.

I’ve come a long way as a storyteller, and the podcast has come a long way too.

Most important to me? You’re still here, still listening, reading and supporting my work. Thank you for your time, interest & attention.

My, my…look how far we’ve come!

There will be much revelling at the ten year mark but there’s words and sounds to be served between then & now, so it’s back to work for me!

Flash Fiction: Don’t Panic!

Junior technician Clarence Tanner smiled and pushed both hands against the airlock, sealing the over-pressure room shut. He let out a shaky breath, zipped his clean room suit (more padded than usual) all the way up, and started down the hall.

Just like that, his nerves melted away, and he believed.

It was going to work.

He hummed softly and tugged the white cap from his head. He kept humming and smiling as he traded his white fabric uniform for jeans and polo shirt in the dressing room, grabbed his (more padded than usual) laptop bag and headed out for the day.
